An angry crowd including hundreds of locals and students manhandled president of World Hindu Federation, Bharat Keshar Singh, and his two sons and burnt down their car in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
According to reports, the row erupted after the car being driven by Singh allegedly hit a motorbike in front of Hotel Malla at Lainchour and Singh engaged into verbal duel with the owners of the bike. Upon hearing about the incident, students of nearby Amrit Science Campus and hundreds of locals gathered and started manhandling Singh and his two sons—Ajay Keshar and Anant Kehsar. They also torched their Toyota Corolla Car. Police later intervened and rescued the Singh family from the enraged crowd. The crowd forced the police to handcuff Singh and his sons while they were being taken away.
Singh, who sustained injuries on his head and other parts of the body, is undergoing treatment at the Army hospital at Chhauni while his two sons were taken to District Police Office, Kathmandu. Police said an investigation is underway.
This is the first such incident in which locals vented their anger against a close royal aide after His Majesty King Gyanendra gave up his direct rule in April this year. Singh was in the news for supporting the direct royal rule and advocating that Hindu king didn’t need to remain confined within the constitution.
