Water projects completed in Makwanpur

Hetauda, Mar. 27:Various 59 potable water projects at 14 VDCs of Makwanpur district conducted from 1996 to 99 and 11 in the current fiscal year under the annual programme of Plan International has been completed, according to the organisation.

Plan International, Nepal, had provided Rs 27,474,426 as grants for the construction of the projects, it is learnt.

The local people also contributed Rs 6,000,000 in terms of voluntary labour for the purpose, it is learnt.

About forty thousand people have been directly benefited from the water supply projects.

Meanwhile, target has been set to launch 56 potable water projects from 2001 to 2002 as per the demands of the remote VDCs of Makwanpur district. Of these, construction work of 25 potable water projects have already been completed, according to chief of Plan International, Makwanpur, R. P. Gupta.

Likewise, a week-long training was imparted for the repair, maintenance, overseeing, and cleanliness of the potable water projects in the future, it is learnt.

Plan International, Makwanpur, has conducted income generating programmes, health treatment centres, maternity and child care centres and provided textbooks and scholarships to children at 17 VDCs of the district in the current fiscal year.
