The Nepal-Bhutan joint verification team (JVT) is to start verification of the category-3 “non-Bhutanese” refugees of the Khudunabari camp from Monday, a published report said Saturday, quoting Home Ministry officials.
The verification is being held in accordance with the decision reached during the 15th Nepal-Bhutan ministerial joint committee meet held in Thimpu in October, the Himalayan Times said.
The JVT, in June, had categorised some 2,948 persons of 12,000-plus refugees living in the Khudunabari camp as non-Bhutanese despite concrete evidence, the daily said.
The Category-3 refugees have been demanding guarantee of citizenship and original homesteads as their preconditions if Bhutan was really serious in repatriating them, the daily said.
