Transport service in Narayani Zone resumed from Tuesday evening after the protesting transporters reached an agreement with the local authorities.
The Narayani Transport Entrepreneurs Association announced to call off the strike, which started from Monday, after the local administration agreed to make sure that transporters would not be forced to pay undue amount of compensation in road accidents and security to transporters would be ensured.
A meeting represented by administrative and security officials, political parties and the transporters was held in Hetauda. Traffic resumed after 4:00 pm, according to reports.
Thousands of passengers were stranded at different places due to the strike while businesses in Nayangadh, Hetauda and Birjung were also affected. Transport workers backed by the Entrepreneurs’ Association had blocked roads and burned tyres in Narayagadh and Hetauda in the morning.
However, there were no reports of violence during the strike.
