Police handed over a jeep used by Maoists’ People’s Liberation Army at Mahabouddha to the United Nations’ Mission in Nepal.

The jeep, instead of a government-issued registration number, had ‘Third Division-4’ written on it.

A dispute ensued when traffic police asked the driver to produce the document to prove that the vehicle was operating with UN consent.

The vehicle was handed over to the UN team following discussion with the UN team.

“The UN assured us that it will ask the party concerned to register the vehicle with the authority concerned,” Basudeve Pathak, an inspector at the Metropolitan Police Section, said.

Last night, police handed over another jeep bearing registration number Ba 1 Cha 7951 to its owner, Birendra Maharajan. A Maoist leader, Bibidh, was using the Land Cruiser that was “stolen” from Maharjan eight months ago, police said.

We seized the vehicle in Satdobato and handed it over to Maharjan after he produced documents which proved that the vehicle belonged to him, police said.

Meanwhile, District Administration Office Bardiya imposed curfew order in Sanoshree area of Bardiya district from 7.00 p.m. Monday evening till Tuesday morning following dispute between Maoists and Armed Police Force (APF).

According to reports, the disputed started after activists of Young Communist League (YCL) obstructed APF personnel from staying at the godown of the cotton development committee at Sanoshree Bardiya, which was captured by the Maoists since the last five years.

Earlier, consensus was made to keep APF there.

Police have to use force after activists of YCL pelted stones targeting police. Two APF personnel were injured during the incident.

Landless squatters and freed Kamaiyas are staying in the area.
