Secretaries of all Village Development Committees (VDC) in Nawalparasi, Ramechhap, Pyuthan and Gulmi districts have resumed their duty, reports said Thursday.
The secretaries had resigned en-masse previously due to the threat of the Maoist insurgents. Over 1,250,000 people in the districts were affected by the resignation of the VDC secretaries.
The VDC secretaries are learnt to have resumed their duty after the local administratation warned them strongly to return to the job, it is reported. Services like certification of relatives, birth and death registration and recommendation for citizenship and passports had been affected in the absence of secretaries in the villages.
There are 73, 55, 49 and 79 VDCs in Nawalparasi, Ramechhap, Pyuthan and Gulmi districts respectively.
