US Senator Arlen Specter, who chairs the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, arrived in Kathmandu on a two-day visit to Nepal on Saturday.

According to the US Embassy in Kathmandu, Specter’s visit here is part of a fact-finding trip to various countries including Nepal, China, Bhutan, Israel and Libya.

The powerful Judiciary Committee headed by him addresses a variety of key issues, among them terrorism, intellectual property rights, trafficking in persons, religious persecution, and drug interdiction.

During the visit, the US Senator will meet with leaders of political parties, senior government officials and civil society representatives to review the ongoing political developments in Nepal.

Specter who became Pennsylvania’s longest serving US Senator in 2005, is a Republican. The US Embassy is coordinating his Nepal visit.
