The American Ambassador to Nepal, James F Moriarty, has indicated the possibility of removal of the terrorist tag on the Maoists provided they improve their activities in the future.
Speaking with journalists in Pokhara on Tuesday, Moriarty said the rebels should change their attitude in practice, not only in words.
He accused the Maoists of amassing weapons, continuing recruitment of guerillas, intensifying extortions, forcing people to take part in their mass meeting in Kathmandu and killing two political cadres in Rautahat recently.
The US envoy also made it clear that his government would not provide any support to feed the Maoist army even if the government asked for that. He added other donors may help the government.
He however said his government will help in creating conducive environment for peace talks and provide economic assistance for other purposes.
Moriarty is to leave Nepal next week to discuss the new political situation in Nepal with his government.
