Moriarty went to Koirala’s residence at Maharajganj in the morning where the two discussed at length the latest political developments in Nepal including the recent 12-point agreement between the seven-party alliance and the Maoists and the future moves of the parties, Congress sources said.

Likewise, the US ambassador also held a discussion with UML general secretary Nepal this morning.

The US ambassador’s meeting with the top opposition leaders comes a day after Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran wrapped up a crucial visit to Kathmandu.

During his stay here, Saran met His Majesty King Gyanendra and held discussions with senior government officials including cabinet vice-chairman Kirti Nidhi Bista and top opposition leaders over the current political crisis in Nepal and its possible outlet.

Moriarty had visited Indian capital New Delhi last month to discuss Nepal’s political crisis with Indian officials. The US government has been vocal in favour of early restoration of democratic process in Nepal.
