Migrant Nepalis living in Baltimore of the United States observed the International Human Rights Day, discussing the human rights situation in Nepal.

Participants of a discussion program organised by Nepal Human Rights Association, Maryland, on the occasion of Human Rights Day expressed their solidarity towards the ongoing movement in Nepal for the restoration of democracy and human rights, a press release issued by the Association said.

Addressing the program, former Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, Murari Raj Sharma, said, ”It is the responsibility of all the Nepalis living outside Nepal to speak for restoration of democracy and human rights in their homeland.”

Expressing worry about the deteriorating human rights situation in Nepal, he further said that the state should be attentive towards protecting the basic rights of each citizen.

Sharma also admired the concern shown by Nepalis living in the US for the protection of human rights in Nepal.

Addressing the discussion program, president of American Public Affairs Council, Dr Shyam Karki, maintained, “Nobody can stop the voice of the people. We have moral support to the voices of the Nepali people for human rights in the Nepal.”

Another speaker Dr Anup Pahari was of the view that the ongoing violence in Nepal has given rise to human violation. He added that the issue of human rights should be above the political affairs.
