Upper Andhikhola Project’s stakeholders review progress

Syangja, Jan. 9 :A programme of interaction was held here recently to asses the progress hitherio made by the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) which are partners in Upper Andhikhola Watershed Conservation and Management Project. The programme aimed to exchange the experiences they gained in their respective fields of activity.

Suryodaya Youth Club, Andhikhota Conservation Farmers’ Group, Progress Saving Group and Rural Institution for Environment Projection, Arukhark Conservation Farmers Group and Pallekhark Forest Users Group were included in the programme in order to expand the links between the participating institutions and governmental units, enlist people’s maximum participation in development works through public sector’s minimum cost involvement Andha Andhi Community Development Centre.

Chairman of the Andha Andhi Community Development Centre Gunakhar Sapkota says the interaction programme would help avoid repetition or work, thus saving means and resources.

Meanwhile in another news from Dhangadhi, the Habitat Programme, Tikapur has been constructing buildings for the poor and handing over to their owners under the housing programme.

At a function held here the other day, some buildings were handed over to the locals, namely Joga Kami, Ramila Devi Lohar, Shantidevi Tiruwa, Kamala Bhugai, Bhim Bahadur Thapa and Prem Thakulla.

The buildings were constructed with an interest free loan of Rs. 75,000/- from the organisation and the financial contribution equivalent to Rs. 30,000/- by the owner of the building.

Bio-gas plants have also been installed in five out of the total buildings constructed recently in the residential area.

Under the programme, 5 in Tikapur and 6 in Dhangadhi are now under construction.

Proposals for building construction come from the local people after consultative among themselves and the proposals are put forward through the concerned ward and village development committee for the final approval from the District Council.

Some 219 community organisations have come into being and Rs. 728,319/- accumulated so far whereas various income-generating schemes are being run among the member of the organisation with the total investment of Rs, 1,005,378.
