Over six thousand teachers of the Tribhuvan University, the oldest university in the country and the Mahendra Sanskrit University have announced nationwide protests beginning September 30.
Nepal University Teachers’ Association (NUTA) President Khagendra Bhattarai said Saturday that the protests were aimed at drawing the University’s attention towards the deteriorating state of the colleges in the country and initiating efforts towards bringing about a reform in the education sector.
Bhattarai accused the University of curtailing the budget given out every year to the colleges without taking into account the increasing financial stress faced by them.
He also charged the University of turning a deaf ear towards the genuine demands of the teachers.
