Chief of army staff of the Royal Nepalese Army (RNA), General Pyar Jung Thapa, has said sustainable peace could be restored in the country only after ‘elements of national power’ could be mobilized in a unified way.

He, however, did not elaborate who those powers were.

General Thapa said further mutual coordination, collaboration and understanding in such a national campaign would be crucial.

Addressing a convocation ceremony at the RNA command and staff college at Shivapuri, Kathmandu on Wednesday, General Thapa said the international community’s voice was one against Nepali Maoists because terrorism had affected the entire South Asia region. “The RNA is committed to restoring sustainable peace, and will present itself more strongly against the Maoists,” he said.

According to RSS news agency, General Thapa said the courageous step taken by His Majesty the King on February 1 this year has been a source of great inspiration for the security forces to perform their duties with heart, words and deed with dedication and high enthusiasm. He further said security forces have gained encouraging results after joint security mobilization. nepalnews.com by July 21 05
