The high level United Nations mission led by Staffan de Mistura held discussion with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on the issue of arms management and the role of global body in Nepal’s peace process Thursday morning.

The team led by de Mistura called on Prime Minister Koirala at his residence at Baluwatar this morning.

The team had also met the Prime Minister on Monday.

Likewise, the UN team also called on Deputy Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who also holds the foreign portfolio, this morning to discuss the UN role in Nepal’s peace process.

The team also discussed about the issue of arms management with the government talks team coordinator Krishna Situala and Home Minister at the Peace Secretariat.

The team has already set a deadline to both the government and Maoists to put forward a common consensus on arms management before it wraps up its Nepal visit.

The UN team, which is returning New York this afternoon held extensive discussions with government ministers, leaders of ruling seven party alliance and the Maoists about the issue of arms management and role of global body in Nepal’s peace process.

The UN team also visited some districts of mid-western region to assess situation there.

The team will present its report to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.
