Pokhara, May 9: Five organisations in Kaski district have expressed happiness at the decision of the United Nations to declare the Full Moon Day of Baisakh, on which Lord Gautam Buddha was born, became enlightened and attained Nirvana, a public holiday.
In a communique published here, chairman of the Dayak Sabha Tilakman Gubhaju, Gyanmala Sang Chairman Subarna Kumar Bajracharya, Women Upasika Association chairman Mrs Panchalaxmi Buddacharya and Youth Buddhist Association chairman Uttam Man Buddhacharya said the U.N. decision is a matter of special pride for the Nepalese.
Dharmashila Buddhist Vihar here has also expressed happiness at the U.N. Decision.
Gratitude has been expressed towards the government of Sri Lanka which proposed the public holiday, the nine Buddhist countries of South East-Asia which seconded the proposal, and l2 various other countries and member countries of the general assembly.
