KATHMANDU: General secretary Madav Kumar Nepal of the CPN-UML launched a Kathmandu Valley awareness programme Thursday in the capital against King Gyanendra’s move to dismiss Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba by assuming executive powers after the breakdown of the constitutional process

Former members of parliament attired in national dress and lawyer in uniform will snake through the city’s streets Friday. The party’s youth wing will jog the streets backward Monday and  hold a whistle rally in the three districts of the Valley Tuesday, the party said.

The campaign will end with a rally in the capital next Sunday. The party asked other political parties, organizations and citizens to join the campaign. The party has threatened to launch a movement if the King does not “correct” what it calls a royal mistake.

Ousted prime minister Deuba told party activists Wednesday some forces are trying to activate the King in politics. “If parties do not create pressures against extreme royalist forces, democratic norms will be negated within a month or two,” he said.

Others have asked the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML to help the government conduct early national elections to end the political stalemate.
