A meeting of the CPN-UML central committee Thursday ended without a decision on joining the Deuba government.

The UML has said the standing committee, the supreme body, has been given full authority to take decisions on the matter.

Although no formal decision came, sources said the party is set to join the government. ‘The standing committee will give the names of leaders to be inducted in the Deuba cabinet,” said the source.

Today’s meeting has approved a 50-point proposal, which will be presented to the prime minister before joining the government.

The UML, in its proposal, has called for early peace talks with the Maoists followed by a roundtable conference, an interim government, a new constitution and finally the parliamentary elections.

Likewise, the meeting has also approved several agendas related to the development activities.

“Our major demands are that the executive power should be returned to the Council of Ministers and all the decisions taken in the past that were not in the interest of the nation and the parliament should be taken back,” UML spokesperson Pradeep Nepal told reporters after the meeting.

The standing committee meeting is expected within a day or two, UML sources said.
