A senior UML leader has refuted allegations that the party had gone ahead and registered the statute amendment proposal unilaterally.
“In fact, we have had a series of interactions with our friends from Nepali Congress over this proposal. We discussed it in front of lawyers,” said Ishwor Pokharel, a standing committee member of the UML.
Pokharel expressed ‘surprise’ over the ‘surprise’ expressed by NC general secretary Ram Chandra Poudel who had claimed that the UML had not discussed with the Congress leaders before registering the proposal.
In the amendment proposal, the UML has proposed to insert a clause in the interim constitution whereby the King can be impeached and removed by two-third majority of the parliament.
Leaders of NC and Maoists have criticized the UML for registering unilateral proposal.
