Thousands of CP-UML activists in the Valley took to the streets Wednesday afternoon in peaceful protests against spiraling price rises coinciding with an increase in the prices of POL products following a U.S.-led attack on Iraq that has entered its second week.
Several officials had hoped the war would be short and swift. Protestors marched through Kathmandu’s streets demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand and price controls.
The party said in a statement the six-month-old Chand government is not concerned about the people’s welfare since it has increased POL prices twice in its short tenure. The party said it will launch nation-wide protests against the price rise carried out by what is called the unconstitutional Chand government. Government revised transport fares upwards Wednesday night.
But vegetable prices have plummeted and stabilized after clearing of the landslide at Krishnabhir and vehicular movement on the Tribhuvan and Prithvi Highways normalized facilitating the movement of goods to and from India.
