The ninth Central Working Committee (CWC) of the CPN-UML continues under the chairmanship of the party General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal.

On the fifth day of the meeting on Saturday, 10 of the party’s CWC members presented their suggestions over the political report put forwarded by the general secretary.

According to reports, the UML leaders stressed that the party should opt for a democratic republic.

UML Standing Committee member Jhala Nath Khanal, reportedly, demanded that the party go for an early general convention so as to reorganize it from an ideological, political, theoretical and organizational point of view.

Khanal opined that the country would be secure and prosperous even without the existence of monarchy. “Voices for a republican set-up in the country are the result of the King’s autocratic rule and the party must encourage such views,” reports have quoted Khanal as saying.

Central leaders, Pramesh Hamal, Bedu Ram Bhusal, Bachaspati Devkota, Naresh Kharel, Keshav Badal, Modnath Prasrit, Tul Bahadur Gurung, Govinda Koirala and Ratneswor Goit presented their suggestions.

The CWC meet will continue Sunday, the party has said.
