Uma Adhikari was Friday elected the chairperson of the Nepal Women’s Organization at the first national  convention  of the women’s front of the ruling Nepali Congress party held in Biratnagar in 54 years.

Adhikari defeated Mina Pandey by securing 294 of the 630 votes, election officials said. Late Mangala Devi was lifelong chairperson of the organization she founded in 2004 BS.
