Kathmandu, June 27: At least two policemen were killed instantly and three others were injured when Maoists attacked a police post at Khiladpur village in Dang district 400 kms west of the capital Tuesday night. Casualties on both sides could be higher, police added.

Maoists decamped with looted arms and ammunition, police said. The injured policemen have been airlifted to Ghokari hospital in Dang for treatment.

Rebels also seriously injured the principal of Rosyland Boarding School Chitra Bhandari in Birendranagar, Surkhet, in an arson attack on the school Tuesday, police said.

Insurgents exploded devices in Kavre and Banepa Tuesday night and Wednesday morning protesting an enactment of public security regulations this month that gives authorities sweeping powers of arrest to curb strikes and other forms of protest, officials said. Maoists have nation-wide protests against the promulgation of the amended regulation.
