The Vice Chancellor (VC) and Rector of the Tribhuvan University (TU) resigned from their posts on Monday following pressure from employees of the TU.

According to radio reports, VC Professor Dr Govinda Prasad Sharma and Rector Professor Dr Mahendra Singh resigned from their posts after employees did not allow them to enter their chambers.

The employees had been protesting demanding the resignation of the VC and other officials of the TU charging them of assisting the royal regime.

The employees stopped VC Sharma from entering the office and compelled him to walk back after taking the key of his vehicle.

However, chairman and members of the TU Service Commission are yet to quit their posts.

Employees of the TU demanded their resignation saying they asked the employees to compulsorily attend the office during the pro-democracy movement of the country and assisted the previous regime.

Register of TU, Gita Bhakta Joshi, resigned from his post due to the strike.

Employees of Mahendra Sanskrit University, the only Sanskrit University of the country and Purvanchal University, a private university have also been demanding the resignation of officials with similar charges.
