Their Majesties felicitated in Pokhara

King Gyanendra and Queen Komal were felicitated amid a grand ceremony in Pokhara on Sunday.

Tens of thousands people from various parts of the western region thronged to Pokhara Stadium to attend the civic reception of the King and the Queen. Members of the Civic Felicitation Organizing Committee welcomed their Majesties when they entered the venue at 12.30.

The King, in his 12-minute long address stressed the need for early elections to give continuity to the constitutional process. Giving directives to the concerned authorities to hold the general elections within the year 2061, the King stated: “We call upon the concerned authority to hold general elections within the year 2061 so as to hand over the power to an elected government. The King also expressed confidence that the peace will soon make inroads into the country.

Prior to the King’s address, Kulman Gurung, chairman of Kaski District Development Committee gave a welcome speech highlighting the problems and immediate necessities of the district including that of turning the Pokhara airport into an international airport, establishment of a well-equipped information technology park and the construction of the Pokhara-Kathmandu fast-track tunnel road.

Chairman of the Civic Felicitation organizing committee Lakshya Bahadur Gurung read out the felicitation note on behalf of the people in the western region, expressing confidence that the felicitation program would bring the exiting cordial rapport between the monarch and the people to a new height.

Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa, speaker Tara Nath Ranabhat, ministers, heads of constitutional bodies, representatives of local bodies of all 16 districts of the western region and a huge number of ordinary citizens were present at the ceremony.
