‘Terrorist activities obstruct development’

Pokhara, Jan. 29 : Speaker Taranath Ranabhat said involvement of teachers and students in politics has led to the decline in the standard of school level education.

Addressing the golden jubilee function of Bhadrakali Secondary School at ward No-13 of Pokhara Sub-Metropolis today, Speaker Ranabhat expressed the view that terrorist activities carried out by the Maoists has obstructed development of the country.

Mr Ranabhat also laid the foundation stone for the installation of the statue of late Tek Bahadur Deuja, who donated land worth Rs 31 million for the school.

He also released a souvenir published by the school and felicitated various personalities making notable contribution to the overall development the school.

MP Sukraraj Sharma, Rajparishad member Ganesh Bahadur Gurung, Pokhara Sub-Metropolis Mayor Krishna Thapa and other speakers also expressed their views at the programme chaired by school management committee chairman Pulendraman Shrestha.

On the occasion of Martyrs Day, Basanta Panchami and the fourth year of declaration of Lekhanth Municipality, Speaker Taranath Ranabhat laid the foundation of Lekhnath Municipality building to be constructed at an estimated cost of about Rs 21.7 million.

The building is to be constructed at Nibuwabot in ward No-7 of the municipality on 36.7 ropanies of land provided by His Majesty’s Government.

On the occasion Speaker Ranabhat said attention is being given towards making the local bodies more responsible, transparent and efficient, and develop them into an autonomous body.

Lekhnath Municipality Mayor Saligram Poudel presided.

Menahwile, Speaker Ranabhat inspected the fire-ravaged students welfare room at the administrative building of the Prithvi Narayan Campus here on Saturday.

According to the campus chief Mahendra Bhusan Thapa, all the furniture and documents in the room were burnt up in the fire.

The students are demanding stern action against those responsible for the fire incident, while the local intellectuals have denounced the frequent incidents of arson at the only largest campus of the Western Development Region.
