The negotiation teams of the government and CPN (Maoist) on Sunday have agreed to extend the tenure of the Interim Constitution Drafting Committee (ICDC) by another ten days.

The informal meeting between the two sides on Sunday took the evening.

The Committee has been asked to submit its draft by August 9.

A six-member committee, led by former Justice at the Supreme Court, Laxman Prasad Aryal, had been constituted on June 16. The committee, however, started its work formally only after nearly two weeks.

Both the sides added nine more members to the committee early this month.

One more member, advocate Min Bahadur Biswokarma, was added to the committee today.

Members of the committee have urged the ruling Seven Party Alliance and the CPN (Maoist) to evolve consensus on key issues like interim legislature and fate of the monarchy. Sources say the committee hasn’t been able to finalise its draft due to lack of consensus between the two sides.
