Landline telephones and Internet services have resumed in Nepal from Tuesday after a weeklong disruption in services in the wake of recent political developments.
Landline telephone services were resumed from Tuesday while internet services have resumed from today (Wednesday). However, wireless communication services that include UTL (United Telecom Ltd) and cell phones will remain closed until an inclusive assessment of the current security situation is performed, according to sources.
The decision to this effect was taken by the security coordination meeting held at the Royal Nepalese Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon.
Telephone lines and mobile phones went dead and internet services shut down just after King Gyanendra’s royal proclamation on February 1.
