Taxi drivers organised a protest rally on Monday demanding compensation to a taxi driver who was shot dead last week at Balkumari.
The rally that begun from Gaushala passed through Sinamangal, Tinkune, Baneshor, Babermahal, Maitighar and ended at Ratna Park.
The taxi drivers have said they were compelled to resume their demonstrations after government failed to compensate their deceased friend. The talks between the government officials and the drivers on Friday had ended inconclusively. The government has said it can provide only expenses to cover rituals and cremation.
Police has not arrested anyone in connection to the driver’s killing.
The rally disrupted the traffic for more than two hours. Police have said the transportation has been normalised after the rally.
Prior to their rally, the taxi drivers had organised demonstrations in Teku, Kalanki, Balkhu and a few other places.
Meanwhile, the cabinet on Monday decided to effectively control the demonstrations, rally and protest programme organised in the valley.
