Speaking at a program organized in the capital Thursday, Manandhar said the system will not be practiced even in the coming years.
“The OCE decided not to announce the names of the toppers of the SLC examination so as to avoid unethical, unprofessional and unintellectual maneouvering in SLC results,” he said, adding, “The decision would help reduce commercialisation of higher education.”
He also informed that though the Ministry had directed the concerned authorities to constitute a committee to appoint vice-chancellors in the universities, the process is being delayed due to reasons concerning the Prime Minster.
Speaking at the same programme, educationist Dr Tirtha Khaniya challenged the government to provide “intellectual logic” behind the OCE’s decision not to publish the names of top ten scorers.
Educationist Mana Prasad Wagle said the results of SLC board had no credibility as there was no uniformity in examination rules.
Chairman of Private and Boarding School Association of Nepal (PABSON) Umesh Shrestha said the government should strengthen public schools and improve the SLC results as it is only the private schools that are saving country’s image.
General Secretary of the Nepal Students’ Union, Badri Pandey, flayed the OCE’s decision not to publish the names of top scorers and stressed the need for restructuring the national educational system and decentralising the SLC examination.
Khimlal Bhattarai, president of the ANNFSU, said the results had again proved the national educational system’s failure.
