The government has created posts of security advisors in the Home Ministry to transfer suspended chiefs of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force after their six-month long suspension expires.

According to reports, the cabinet meeting on Tuesday took the decision to send suspended Inspector General of Nepal Police Shyam Bhakta Thapa and Inspector General of Armed Police Force Saha Bir Thapa to newly created posts.

The government suspended them from their posts on the recommendation of the High Level Commission formed to probe the atrocities committed to suppress the pro-democracy movement of the country for their alleged role in suppression of April movement.

Tuesday’s meeting appointed chiefs in all four security agencies of the country.

The duo will advise the Home Minister on matters of national security plans after they join the office, The Kathmandu Post daily quoted a source as saying.

Their suspension will expire on November 15. According to aources, Shyam Bhakta will retire on Dec 30, 2006, while Saha Bir will retire on March 17, 2007.

Nine years ago, the then IGP Dhurba Bahadur Pradhan was appointed as Prime Minister’s advisor after Achyut Krishna Kharel won a court case and resumed the office of IGP.

The government had also sent then Chief Secretary Lok Man Singh Karki to the National Planning Commission by creating a new post “Officer in Special Duty”.
