At least five houses were swept away and more than 45 families displaced near the Pashupatinath temple due to flooding at the Bagmati river in Kathmandu on Sunday morning.

According to police, the houses of Sumitra Kafle, Gangadhar Gautam, Chiranjibi Satyal, Hirakaji Shrestha and Sharada Gautam were swept away by the swollen waters.
However, no human casualties were reported. Flood affected households were moved to a new location for settlement.
“The incident occurred after the dam near Pashupatinath temple was blocked. The dam however opened on Sunday morning,” police said.
According to reports, property worth six million rupees was destroyed in the incident.
Meanwhile, the locals organized a ‘chhaka jam’ (transportation halt) in Gausala area demanding appropriate compensation to the victims.
They alleged that the incident occurred due to the negligence of the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) and burnt the Bajra house of PADT.
