Home Minister and Chief Government negotiator, Krishna Prasad Sitaula has said that the talks teams of the government and the Maoists would meet soon for finalising the dates for summit talks between top leaders of ruling seven party alliance and the Maoists.

Talking to journalists after the meeting with Ian Martin, the personal representative of UN secretary-general Kofi Annan, Sitaula said, “Summit talks would be held very soon, we have been talking informally with Maoist leaders.”

The government mandated the government’s talks team to fix the dates and agendas for the summit level talks.

Martin met the government’s talks team and received information about the latest development in the peace process.

However Martin refused to divulge the details of the meeting held for one hour in the evening and said, “I am afraid I cannot make any public statement.”

However, Sitaula said that the meeting was focused on the development in the peace process after the signing of the five-point agreement.

He said that the issues of the management of arms and interim statute will be dealt simultaneously before forming an interim government.

“We apprised him (Martin) about the latest developments and dwelt on what can be done next.

We also discussed the issue of implementation of the five-point agreement,” said Sitaula.

Martin was appointed as personal representative of UN secretary-general Kofi Annan to Nepal to assist Nepal peace process as per the request of the government and the Maoists.
