Students close down Malangawa to protest professor’s death

Students of the Sarlahi campus took to streets of the district headquarters Malangawa Tuesday morning saying that an assistant professor of the campus died due to negligence of the district hospital.

Assistant professor Ram Raya was hit by a motorcycle last night and was rushed to Sarlahi hospital immediately. He was referred to Narayani Sub-regional Hospital in Birgunj but he was reported to have died on the way.

Demonstrating students torched the local traffic police post and a clinic in the town. They also torched Sarlahi hospital, Public Health Office, District Administration Office and building of the Nepal Red Cross Society.

Police fired one shot in the air to control the situation. Malangawa remains closed after the incident.
