Students clash with police, five injured

Five students belonging to the eight student organizations were injured this morning when the students clashed with police near Putalisadak at Shankar Dev Campus, student leaders told Nepalnews.

According to Subodh Acharya, CWC member of the NSU, three of them were seriously injured in the incident. Acharya said student activists Chandra Silwal lost a finger while Subharam Basnet and Ramesh Kunwar sustained injuries in the nearly 3-hour-long clashes.

The injured activists are undergoing treatment at Kathmandu Model Hospital, he said. Traffic was disrupted along the Putalisadak area as irate students burnt tyres and pelted stones at the police deployed in front of the campus.

In Kirtipur, the students demonstrated against Sunday’s police intervention inside the boy’s hostel inside the university. The university has remained closed. Students in Pokhara also demonstrated demanding release of their comrades Monday.

The agitating students are to stage a torch rally in Kathmandu in the evening today, Acharya said.
