Half a dozen student leaders, arrested for opposing the Rastrabadi Shikchha (Nationalist education) in Kathmandu on July 14, have been released as per the Supreme Court’s order Monday.

Establishing their arrest as illegal, the apex court ordered their release today.

The leaders- Pradip Poudel, Saroj Thapa, Narayan Bharati, BP Regmi, Pushpa Shahi and Thakur Gaire- were arrested from the protest against the printing of the royal family photos in school textbooks in the name of implementing ‘nationalist education’ in the Kingdom.

They were sent to central jail as they refused to submit Rs 500 bail demanded by the Kathmandu District Administration Office.
