A strike called by ANNISU, the student wing of Maoist rebels, Saturday brought life in Mechi and Koshi zones to a standstill, reports said.
Vehicular movements in the two eastern zones almost came to a halt due to the strike. Most of the shops in major cities of the region were shut fearing possible violence, the reports said.
In particular, Dhankuta and Ilam districts were mostly affected, as terror was widespread there because of explosions on Friday, one day before the strike.
Cities such as Biratnagar, Dharan, Itahari, Inaruwa, Birtamod and Bhadrapur, among other places, also remained closed, the reports said.
Long route passengers were stranded and had to cancel their trips due to the strike.
