Stability of economy discussed

Kathmandu, June 18:World Bank vice president for South Asia Ms Mieko Nishimizu met with Finance Minister Mahesh Acharya at the Finance Ministry today.

On the occasion, discussions were held on the stability of the Nepalese economy as a whole, reform of the financial sector, effective revenue mobilisation and expenditure management and reform of the civil service.

The Finance Minister said that the budget proposed with important objectives such as maintaining law and order, reining in corruption and ensuring good governance is determined to reduce poverty progressively.

Vice chairman Nishimizu said the World Bank would be an active partner in Nepal’s development efforts.

Also present on the occasion were World Bank resident country director Hans Rothanbuhler, senior economist Para Suriyachi and officials of the Finance Ministry.

Also today Ms Nishimizu met with Finance Secretary Dr Bimal Prasad Koirala at the Finance Ministry.
