Sri Krishna Janmasthami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, is being celebrated by Hindus across the Kingdom Friday.
Lord Krishna, a much-loved god in Hinduism, is considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the protector of human beings from evil forces.
To celebrate Sri Krishna Janmasthami, devotees gather at temples dedicated to Lord Krishna across the country today. In Kathamndu Valley, thousands of Lord Krishna’s followers visit Krishna Mandir(s) at Patan-a 17th century shrine- and Pashupati premises, among others.
Images of the lord are carried around major cities in Nepal in a procession accompanied by cheerful crowds of the lord’s followers with musical bands cherishing the good deeds of Lord Krishna for a peaceful and prosperous world.
According to Hinduism, Lord Krishna guided humanity on the path of knowledge, truth and immortality. Lord Krishna, taught warrior Arjuna the value of Karma in Bhagwad Gita, was born of Basudev and Devaki while held prisoner by Kansha in Mathura, India.
