Squal hits Lamjung

Lamjung, June 1: A series of squall, hailstones and flash floods in different parts of Lamjung district over the past few days has damaged crops and property, causing a loss of about Rs 1.2 million, it is learnt from the district administration office.

Flash flood at Ward No-3 of Gaon Sahar VDC is learnt to have damaged the house of Balkrishna Baral.

A squall accompanied by hailstones in Duradada area has damaged the maize crop and blown away the roof of local Sarbodaya Secondary School.

The squall also knocked down electricity power lines and poles in Lamjung plunging the area without electricity for about 48 hours, the district administration office said.

Meanwhile in Dhading, the hailstorm that lashed the district headquarters of Dhadingbesi and other adjoining areas at 5 p.m. last recently has caused damages worth hundreds of thousands of rupees.

The hailstorm completely damaged the standing maize, fruits, vegetables crops and swept away roofs of some houses, it is learnt.

Meanwhile in Charikot, a meeting of the Natural Calamity Relief Committee held here under the chairmanship of Dolakha district CDO Khagendra Dev Joshi has formed a task force to make an on-the-spot inspection of the damage done to different crops in Lapilang, Lamidanda, Oranga and Bulung VDCs by recent excessive downpour and to submit a report.

The meeting decided to carry out re-construction work on the physical assets of schools, health posts and VDC offices damaged by the rain and despatch a medical team along with medicines to places where gastro-enteritis has broken out.

The meeting also agreed to exercise alertness over preventive measures, providing of relief in case of natural calamity, rehabilitation for the victims and mitigation of the scale of damage.
