A special five person bench of the Supreme Court next Friday will hear arguments on the legality of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s government to freeze the sale and transfer of land ahead of a reduction of land ceiling announced Thursday.
The one-man bench of the Supreme Court of Chief Justice Keshab Prasad Upadhaya issued an interim order to different government bodies to present the government case without issuing an interim order to lift the ban as demanded.
Chief Justice Upadhaya issued the ruling Tuesday after a three-day hearing on complaints filed by at least six persons that the government decision was illegal and unconstitutional.
