Ambassador-at-large and leader of Nepali delegation to the 58th session of the UN General Assembly Dr. Bhekh Bahadur Thapa Wednesday held a meeting with the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, RSS reported.
During the meeting, Dr. Thapa appreciated the Secretary-General’s role in the reform process of the United Nations and assured Nepal’s support in his endeavour, said the state news agency.
“Dr. Thapa expressed his high appreciation to Annan for the concern he has been showing about the Maoist problem in Nepal and for the interest to help resolve the crisis.” The Secretary General appreciated the government’s determination to resolve the problem on its own and said the UN will stand ready to offer help if request is made to that effect, the news report said.
Annan further commended Nepal’s role in various UN peacekeeping operations.
