Kathmandu, June 27: Following objections from the MPs of opposition parties over a difference of over Rs. 10 million between the budget statement and the red book in the sum apportioned for four roads and rural electrification, the Speaker of the House of Representatives adjourned House proceedings for half an hour at its meeting today.
Earlier, the regular business of the House was hindered for about 15 minutes.
Ishwar Pokharel of CPN-UML took the stance that the meeting should not proceed until the vast difference between the budget statement and the red book was cleared.
Bharat Mohan Adhikari, Raguji Pant and Dr. Dilli Raj Khanal supported this view over the difference in question.
Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat of Nepali Congress said that the questions were serious but was opposed to interrupting the business of the House for that reason alone.
Hridayesh Tripathi of Nepal Sadbhawana Party suggested interruption of the meeting for half an hour to settle the dispute.
The disgruntled MPs stuck to their point despite an assurance of correction from Minister for Water Resources, Works and Physical Planning Khum Bahadur Khadka in case there is a mistake, and the meeting eventually adjourned for half an hour.
