The meeting of the top leaders of the Seven Part Alliance (SPA) has decided to postpone the current session of the parliament.

Sunday’s meeting of the top leaders of the seven political parties made the decision to this effect.

The decision comes at a time when the Maoists are demanding the dissolution of the HoR while the alliance is insisting on retaining the Parliament till there is an alternate arrangement.

Talking to journalists after the meeting of the SPA at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, leaders of the SPA said that the session would resume to present the budget for the fiscal year and to discuss important issues.

The leaders further said that they decided to postpone the house session to concentrate on the talks with the Maoists.

Talking to journalists after the meeting general secretary of Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi), Hridayesh Tripathi said, “The decision to postpone the parliament session was taken as there isn’t any burning issues at the moment that needs to be discussed in the HoR and we also need to speed up the government-Maoist talks.”

Tripathi, however, denied that the decision to adjourn the House was a result of Maoist pressure, adding, We are still insisting on retaining the parliament until there is an alternate arrangement.”

The SPA has also decided to form a “steering committee” to direct parliament, government and the peace process.

Similarly, the meeting also decided to make the Peace Secretariat active and influential. At the same time they have also decided to add new faces to the task force of the seven political parties since some members of the task force have been inducted into the Cabinet.

The meeting also agreed to expand the incumbent government by Monday. One member each from Nepali Congress Democratic, People’s Front Nepal and Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi) are yet to be included in the government to give the council of Ministers full shape as per the decision of the SPA.

Talking to the journalists after the meet, General Secretary of CPN UML Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the election of the Constitutional Assembly (CA) should be conducted by the second week of November.

The King reinstated the dissolved parliament as per the roadmap of the SPA following popular movement of the country.
