The meeting of the leaders of the ruling seven party alliance (SPA) has formed a steering committee including their top leaders to hold high level talks with the Maoists and to effectively implement the agreement reached between them and the Maoists.

The members of the steering committee are Ram Baran Yadav, Arjun Narsing KC and Amod Upadhyaya of the Nepali Congress, Ishwor Pokharel, Surendra Pandey, Astha Laxmi Shakya of the UML, Homanath Dahal, Dr Minendra Rijal and Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat of NC-D, Lilimani Pokharel and Navraj Subedi of People’s Front Nepal, Prem Suwal, Sunil Prajapati and Purna Maya Maharjan of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP), Sarita Giri and Anil Kumar Jha of NSP (Anadidevi) and Sitaram Tamang, Hemant BC and Rishi Kattel of the Leftist Front.

Monday’s meeting of the SPA held at the residence of Chairman of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party Narayan Maj Bijukchhe has also decided to form a 21-member taskforce of seven political parties to give suggestions and monitor the government’s activities.

The meeting was held to finalize the agendas for the high level talks between the ruling SPA and the Maoists scheduled for Friday (July 21). However, it could not discuss the agendas due to reservation among constituents of the alliance in some other issues.

Talking to Nepalnews, chairman of NWPP Bijukchhe said that representatives of the political parties expressed strong reservations on the meeting held between the Maoists and two major constituents of the alliance, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML in Godavari on Friday.

He further said that discussions were held in the issues of reviving the local bodies and recent appointments in the post of heads of the state run institutions/organizations.

Bijukchhe further informed that the meeting of the top leaders of the seven political parties will decide the agendas for the high level talks between ruling seven party alliance and Maoists.

On the dissolution of the parliament, Bijukchhe alleged that  NC president Girija Prasad Koirala and CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal had reached into a secret agreement with the Maoists to dissolve the parliament without consulting other constituents of the SPA during the Delhi agreement.

The meeting also asked the Maoists to abide by eight-point and 25 points agreement reached between the ruling SPA and Maoists. The meeting also asked the government to provide appropriate attention for the rehabilitation of the Mukta Kamaiyas (freed bonded labourers).
