Pokhrel won the ipod in a lucky draw among the people who had sent SMS to 2323 to access news, horoscope, weather and forex available online on nepalnews.com and to answer the poll question on mazzako.com during the CAN InfoTech 2007 held from 9-14 January.

A BE student of Kantipur Engineering College, Pokhrel said that he was encouraged to use the service after being awarded. He said that he has been using the service for news and horoscope and that he would spread the word to his friends to use the 2323 SMS service.

Other lucky draw winners during the CAN Info Tech were Bhimsen Shrestha, Supriya Shakya, Manish Kumar Shrivastav, Abhishek Nakarmi, Bhoj Raj Sharma and Madhav Joshi who each won a six-month unlimited Internet access package from Mercantile Communications.

A total of 79,535 SMS were sent during the six-day long CAN Info Tech, during which the SMS service was free.

The ongoing 2323 SMS service is a joint venture of Mercantile Communications and Nepal Telecom, in which people can receive information on updated news, daily and weekly horoscope, weather information and forex from pre-paid and post-paid mobile of Nepal Telecom.

Additional services will be added to the 2323 service shortly. Mercantile Communications also plans to collaborate with Mero Mobile to extend the service to Mero-mobile users.
