Kathmandu, June 30: Sumnima Singh has emerged as a topper in the SLC examinations of this year while among the boys Jeevan Poudel & Manoj Bohara have secured the toppest marks.
Singh secured 647 marks. Poudel and Bohara secured 643 marks each out of 700.
The Office of the Controller of Examinations announced the results of the regular and exempted students who appeared in the School Leaving Certificate examinations of the academic year 2056 B.S. at midnight today.
“We decided not to announce the names of the top ten students in this year’s SLC exams to ensure healthy competition among the schools and to discourage the tendency of exam oriented teaching in the schools,” Controller of Examinations Dr. Sahadev Bhatta said.
He said that the new arrangement was introduced with the modest view of bringing about a system of fair evaluation by the examiners.
Of the 2,05,541 students who appeared for the SLC exams held in the first week of Baishak, 19,836 students passed with first division, 50,580 students passed with second division and 23,562 students passed with third division. Altogether 93,978 students have been declared successful.
The total pass percentage this year stands at 45.72 per cent against the pass percentage of 49.20 from last year.
Similarly, of the 32,082 students who appeared in the exams as exempted students 26 passed with first division, 2,558 passed with second division and 4,747 passed with third division. A total of 7,331 exempted students went through the exams with the pass percentage standing at 22.85 per cent.
“We had the target of brining out the results within 70 days and we are three days ahead of our target,” Bhatta said.
He said that the officials at the Controller’s Office worked for twelve hours everyday to bring out the results.
“The hard work of the colleagues and the team spirit helped us to publish the results on time,” he said,
Birendra Ghimire of the Vinayak Sudha Niketan High School had topped last year’s SLC exams among the regular students by securing 642 marks.
Similarly Junu Manandhar of Little Angles’ School had ranked first among the girls by securing 627 marks.
A total of 1,68,794 students had appeared as regular students in last year’s exam while there were 25,592 exempted students.
Of the total number of students who appeared in the exams last year, 16293 had passed with first division, 37,969 students passed with second division and 14,266 students had passed with third division.
