Chairman of Rastriya Janashakti Party and former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa has urged the government and the Maoists to sign a ceasefire and human rights agreements before moving for the election of the constituent assembly.
Issuing a press statement on Friday, Thapa said that there is a need of reaching consensus on arms management before the election of the constituent assembly.
The RJP chief further said that despite the cessation of the major incidents of violence, people were still compelled to live under the shadow of fear and the Maoists still continue threatening people and forcefully collect money from them.
He further suggested that an interim constitution and the interim government should be formed on consensus among all political parties to hold the election of the constituent assembly.
He urged the Maoists to create conducive environment for all displaced people to return to their homes in a changed political scenario.
Thapa further said that international observation is essential in the election of the constituent assembly to ensure free and fair election. The RJP boss also said that the interim constitution should ensure the principle of people’s supremacy.
Thapa also suggested to reach consensus on the issue of arms management during the period of election of the constituent assembly to ensure free and fair elections.
The party has also asked to dissolve the Maoists’ people’s government and stop acts of extortion and use of force.
The party further said that the United Nations (UN) must play an important role for the arms management and for resolving the problems facing the country.
