The Constitutional Council Monday recommended senior most justice of the Supreme Court, Govinda Bahadur Shrestha to be the next Chief Justice (CJ), court sources said.
Shrestha will be appointed to the post, after present CJ Kedar Nath Upadhyay takes normal retirement on January 20 due to his age. According to the law, a CJ has to retire when he is 65 years old.
Shrestha, 64, was born in 1940 and joined judicial service as a government attorney when he was 22 years old.
Due to age-bar, Shrestha will retire from the post of CJ on January 14, 2005, the court sources added. nepalnews.com mr Jan 13
