Amik Sherchan, President of United Front Nepal, a leftist party, has refused the King’s proposal for a royal audience fixed for Tuesday evening, a statement from his party said.
“Our party thinks the King’s audience is a part of regression,” the statement said. “Therefore, we have decided not to meet the King this time.”
Later in the evening, Sherchan, talking to Kantipur Television, said if the King had wanted a real solution, “then he would have begun the reconciliation bid three-four months ago.”
The King had called Sherchan to received a royal audience at 5 pm.
Meanwhile, President of Nepal Peasants and Labourers Party, Narayan Man Bijukchhe met the King’s at Narayanhiti Royal Palace at 4:30 pm Tuesday, as per the schedule.
Earlier in the morning, the King granted separate audience to Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala and Communications Minister Kamal Thapa.
