The government has appointed Mukunda Sharma Poudel as the acting chief secretary.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Sunday decided to appoint Poudel, who had been working as the officiating chief secretary after the government suspended chief secretary Lok Man Singh Karki few weeks earlier, to the post.

Sharma has already worked as the secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Information and Communication. He will take retirement after a couple of months on the basis of age, it is learnt.
